Microsoft ordered to hand over adverse secondhand software document

Microsoft must explain by 31 October why it took until December 2025 to disclose a June 2013 internal document titled the Second-Hand Software Presentation, after a Competition Appeal Tribunal consent order treated the file as a known adverse document in ValueLicensing's £270 million claim over secondhand licence resale.

The order, dated 14 September 2026 in case 1570/5/7/22, JJH Enterprises Limited trading as ValueLicensing against Microsoft Corporation and Others, also compels unredacted searches of senior executives' mailboxes and SharePoint accounts and lifts blanket confidentiality designations, moving the long-running dispute closer to a liability trial. Microsoft denies wrongdoing.
